How Police Quotas Affect The Police Force

Police quotas negatively affect the economy because it makes the police focus more on reaching the desired number of arrests instead of focusing on preventing actual crime. The rate of crime doesn’t change because police only focus on certain roads and neighborhoods and as a result, businesses and people lose money due to crime and are unable to put their money back into the economy. Policemen who do not wish to adhere to the administration’s demands for citations and arrests are often denied raises and even outright fired by the police department. Police quotas are a detriment to the police force because they fire honest policemen who are against focusing only on the number of arrests they do per day. Those people are out of a job and don’t contribute to the economy or society. Many former policemen file suit towards their police departments and the money that goes into settlements or trials comes from taxpayer money and money incurred from penalties such as fines from citations. This means that money is being diverted from actual police work and more towards paying settlements so that disgruntled former cops don’t talk. Police quotas are also a cause of discrimination in the police force. In New York many black and Latino officers are face unemployment because they refuse to meet a certain amount of arrests and citations. Many African Americans and Hispanics feel discriminated against because their minority groups are the ones that are targeted and that they are the ones who go into these targeted neighborhoods. Promotion and pay raise depended on meeting these quotas which means that policemen in these minority groups are discriminated against in the workplace and don’t get the same promotion and pay raise opportunities.

Police Discrimination Perpetuates Negative Stigmas on Law Enforcement

Police Discrimination is a problem that affects many people in America. It tends to happen to people of color and something that these people have learned to accept. African-Americans are 33% more likely than whites to be detained while facing a felony trial in New York. People have begun to fear the police and most feel that the police do not protect them. There aren’t laws in place that prevent cops from being racist because in retrospect it is something that is pretty hard prove.  This controversy stems from fact color people are in get more trouble with police than whites.  After being arrested, African-Americans are 33% more likely than whites to be detained while facing a felony trial in New York . This has a huge impact on society because if people can not  trust the police so, they will not be able to do there job most effectively. This adversely affects everyone and does not promote peace as these officers stand for.

How the Police Affect the People!

friendly policeHello Audience today i’m blogging about the police and how having them held more accountable for their actions could prove to be beneficial to the community as a whole. Let’s Imagine if we lived in a perfect world where every single police officer actions were constantly being recorded, ending all corruption and disabling the police force from writing false tickets or committing malicious misconduct. This would make the people feel more protected and less scared of police officers; and when the police can’t write false tickets, that the people don’t even have a chance to argue against in court. With less tickets being written for false reasons, the people would have more funds to fuel the local economy. All of the money that you pay for when you get a ticket goes towards the things that you already pay for in your taxes. But It may not be the actual police officers fault, there have been incidents when police have to make a ticket quota. Now if you ask me that sounds a little bit corrupt to me, the police are here to protect and serve, not make traffic ticket quotas. This is why I feel the police force isn’t being used to its full potential and it needs to turn its focus to more serious or more positive matters. The police force has so much potential to make our cities better places to live and reduce crime rates of real crimes instead of harassing the average citizen who may have been late to work. I hope you all spread my blog and keep reading, i will be blogging again soon. Cade v.

Police Take Away Rights by Attacking Protesters

Hello audience, I’m blogging again to inform you all about a serious topic, and that is our civil rights as people. Our own laws made by our founding fathers gives us the right to assemble as we please. People usually assemble to show that they have a problem with the way things are going. I think our founding fathers purposely gave the Citizens of America to speak out against wrongdoing. But a lot of cases have happened where protesters are beaten and arrested without purpose. Now i thought police were supposed to protect us and our rights. When somebody is harmed by a figure that is supposed to protect you, it can make you feel a sense of hopeless insecurity. So when people are protesting, the police think that their protesting is a more important matter than other crimes that could more possibly be happening around other parts of the city where the people are protesting. The police need to know that everybody has the right to assemble, and they can’t take that right away. All they can do about people assembling is harm them and make a worse name for our police forces. But hopefully the more the people speak the more the police will listen. So it sounds weird saying this but we need to keep speaking out and protesting. I hope you guys will spread the blog and keep reading and educating yourself. I will be blogging again soon make sure to check back.  -Cade v.

Police Brutality Scares the People Into Submission

brutalityIt seems like everywhere you go, the police are always abusing their powers. I even have friends and family members who are victims of police brutality and them abusing their powers. My brother has even filed his own complaints of police officers who have arrested and harassed him without reason. But this isnt even a bad case of police harassment or brutality, because there are people getting shot by police officers for no reason, or not enough of a reason, http://www.shouselaw.com/police-misconduct.html, this link is another police brutality advocacy organization that has alot of information on how to avoid police harrasment or misconduct and also what to do about it when it happens to you. Also everybody must be aware that police brutality does happen almost everywhere, http://changethenypd.org/ From the farthest point on the east coast to the west police brutality is affecting innocent citizens. There needs to be a way for the whole nation to come together and start a watch over our police force. Because i believe that is where all the misconduct and corruption is rooted from, the fact there is nobody policing or keeping track of police activities. There are a lot of people who view the police the same way my peers and i do, check out this website http://www.copblock.org/ that has various articles that have to do with police misconduct. Just taking a look at it you can see all the negative things or sometimes positive things the police are doing for our community.   Cade v.

Police Discrimination

For years people of color have felt that police have been treat them unfairly. People have stated that the police do not arrest white people as much as black people. This is proven by the statistics like after being arrested, African-Americans are 33% more likely than whites to be detained while facing a felony trial in New York. This fuels the fire that at American Police are racist even, not every officer is. There has been a countless amount of riots against police and some of them have been some of the darkest days in American history. Riots such the Rodney King riots in LA have been spark by the police and how they racially discriminate. Worst part is that a race of people does not feel safe by the men and women that are supposed to protect them.Though America has made great triumphs such as the civil rights bill of 1968 and establishing the 14th amendment. It seem that the country just can not shake of the racism that it was founded upon.
As long as people keep getting affected by outside factors
such as stereotyping and racial profiling I fear that there may never be a change. But, Change doesn’t happen without action so I want the idea to resonate with people. I want you to take action and what good you do in your community when raise awareness and actively talk to your police department to try to make it better. Together we can make the Police better.

Police quotas perpetuate a violation of civil rights.

Police quotas contribute a violation of civil rights by police officers. Police are instructed to target specific, low class and low income neighborhoods. Police are also instructed to target minority groups in these neighborhoods and even policemen in minority groups are being discriminated. Ticket quotas contribute to discrimination against Blacks, Hispanics and other minority groups in the United States. These minority groups, who are statistically poorer than other groups, are dragged further down into poverty as their social and economic opportunities are hampered by unfair police activity. People who are ticketed have to pay fines which leaves less money for them to buy consumer products or help pay their bills and living expenses. This twofold consequence keeps the economy down and prevents minorities from moving out of poverty. Discrimination by police quotas also contribute to the perpetuation of stereotypes towards minority groups. Minority groups who are targeted by police quotas perpetuate the stereotype that they are poverty stricken people who always get in trouble with the law. A statistic shows that black people are more likely to be arrested than other groups of people. People affected by police discrimination often cannot fight back against the discrimination because of a lack of understanding of the law due to poorer education. They also don not have the money or resources to file suit against the police departments that discriminate against them because they are of that group. Police quotas keep society down by encouraging stereotypes and keeping people poor.

Police brutality Scares The people into Submission

Police Quotas

Arrest quotas negatively influence our police system and sow distrust between the community and police force as well as between police officers themselves. Quotas are counterproductive because they force law enforcement target only specific areas where there is a likely chance of getting enough arrests to meet their goals. Officers are forced to meet their goals by performing poor quality arrests or order to meet quotas.  An example of this is Waldo City, a city in Florida, which is at risk of losing it’s police department because of it’s speed trap. Police officers testified that the police chief, Mike Szabo ordered that the officers write twelve tickets per twelve hour shift or face repercussions. Police officers who wish to oppose these quotas are effected negatively. Officers who fight against social quotas face social and economic stigma. Currently police in Los Angeles are suing their police department because they complained about the quotas their supervisors imposed upon them. After they complained about their quotas the officers got disciplinary action like counseling sessions, sudden transfers, and increased scrutiny and foul comments from their fellow officers. In a police survey from the Palo Alto Police Department, 82% of officers surveyed were concerned about getting in trouble with their administrators over ticket quotas. Police quotas also affect regular people who are harassed by police officers in order to get the arrests and citations needed to keep their jobs. In New York people in targeted areas feel like they feel criminalized and that they should not leave their houses in fear of the police.

Mission Statement

Welcome, everyone! I’m Gino W., the lead editor of the site. We just wanted to post this to introduce you to some of the people that will be posting on this page in the future. I’ll be back at the very end to tell you more about our organization, and our mission in general. For now, let’s start with Aaron F.

Hey, what up people, it’s Aaron and I’m a chairman of the Committee for Police Embetterment. Our mission is to bring awareness to police accountability. I’ve been around the block and back, and I’ve realized that the way the police have been working lately is pretty twisted. Edward Snowden once said “Police officers kill more Americans than terrorism, yet we’ve been asked to sacrifice our most sacred rights for fear of falling victim to it.” I’m here tell people we need stop the partying and raise awareness to police accountability.  I’ll be the this first one to say that cops are pretty rad dudes. They are the people that protect us from bad stuff and we need be thankful for what they do. But get me straight, the police have a lot of power and if a cop were to abuse his power that would be “no bueno”. According to a police study 84% of police officers have witnessed excessive brutality when another officer made an arrest. This is wild and shows that there’s a lot of room for improvement. Police accountability can be a big problem if no has a voice to bring this issue to peoples eyes.

Hi everybody, I’m Cade V., and we are starting a police accountability advocacy group hoping to increase the efficiency of  our community’s defenders of justice. There is a lot of buzz on the news about police doing wrong and there being no way to prove their wrongdoings. We all know how our justice system works, police word trumps any normal citizen’s voice. A lot of times the police will use there authority to get things they want, and keep people quiet through fear. For example, sex is a prevalent issue, with the arresting of prostitutes: 14% of crimes reported against police are accusations of sex crimes. We need to implement a way to make cops take more responsibility for their actions. Our mission Is to raise awareness and get more people to report wrongdoing in our Police.

My name is Lawrence D. I am here to talk about police accountability. There are many instances in the United States where the police don’t do their job correctly. You hear many stories about the abuses of police power, including unlawful arrests and entries as well as poor treatment towards suspects and criminals. About 74% of people who had force or threats used against them felt that it was excessive. This leads to miscarriages of justice and feelings of animosity towards our police force. Our jobs as citizens of the United States is to police the police, and do everything we can to improve it. This Committee is dedicated to improving the quality of our police force by raising awareness about our nation’s police problems. As Antonio Villaraigosa said, “Let me be clear – no one is above the law. Not a politician, not a priest, not a criminal, not a police officer. We are all accountable for our actions.”

Hey! It’s me, Gino, again and as I said above I’d like to give you a little bit of background on our committee, the Committee of Police Embetterment, and what we do. Now, we understand that the Police have a difficult, taxing job, and everyone makes mistakes. We founded the group keeping in mind what President Barack Obama said, in a speech of his, “Understand, our police officers put their lives on the line for us every single day. They’ve got a tough job to do to maintain public safety and hold accountable those who break the law.” We know that they have a tough job, but we are here to make sure that the Police are held accountable for actions if they are purposefully negligent, or corrupt. Police negligence, misconduct, and corruption is a big issue. Did you know that 61% of officers do not always report abuse of authority by other officers, this among other interesting facts can be shown in this set of statistics. After hearing of such incidents we felt like our community needed an outlet for it’s opinions and it’s voice, and founded this advocacy group page. I urge anyone who wants to write in with comments, stories, suggestions and other input. Thank you for joining us. I hope we’ll be seeing you read the rest of our posts as they come up! Bye!
